Gills didn't cooperate... so....

Postby alumacraftjoe » Tue Jul 27, 2010 11:59 pm

Got home early from the zoo with the wife and the kids so decided it was a nice day to hit my favorite little gill lake. Wanted some for the freezer. Somebody forgot to tell the fish only managed this 9" fish. I tried everything float, different depths, tipped w/ one wax worm, none, two. No float on the bottom , everthing I could think of.

After 45 minutes I started after the bass that seemed active. I brought some new custom stick baits I bought from a guy in Mississip in red shad and junebug. Just about every cast for the next hour and 45 minutes I caught one. Think I caught over 30 bass from 12-15 inches. Boy was it a blast. I didn't bring any huge ones in (I hooked into a pretty good one, but he jumped and got off when I was trying to horse it around a log) but considering I only have about 100 feet of shore access at this lake I was ecstatic with the action.

Bummer that those fickle gills  didn't go along with the plan. From your discription about the action on the bass , it must be loaded with them. Thanks for sharing! ole giller

wow great fish pictures. Dont get down on the gills they just didnt want you to get a meal on one outing so they are just limiting you to one gill per trip so you have to go fishing alot more.
