My daughter's adventure

Postby KC » Sat Jul 03, 2010 4:43 pm

My daughter just arrived in Mali, Africa today for a 2 year stint in the Peace Corps.
We're very proud of her and her decision to help the less fortunate, but we're also concerned for her safety and well-being in a poor 3rd world country.
She'll be issued a mountain bike for transportation and living in a hut with no electricity or running water. She'll be working at a clinic in a small village as a health outreach technician, teaching the locals about disease and hygene issues.

I've spent most of my life fishing...the rest I've wasted. Lifes too short to only fish on weekends.

She 's is in our prayers also. We just ( last year) got my step daughter back for Mozambique Africa. Much the same as the bicycle goes , but she had water and electricity most of the week ( not sundays).

I think my niece has just returned from a one year trip around the world teaching religion, so I would imagine the world has been pretty much saved by now. I was the only family member that thought it was a mistake to even go.
prayers go out for your daughters safety. ole giller

Thank you all for your prayers and well-wishes.
Got an update from her today. She's in Mali and doing well. She's currently doing a "home stay" with a village chief's family as she learns the local language.
She got bit by a bot fly (look it up if you haven't heard of them, they're pretty disgusting) and had the larva come out of the wound. She said it was no big deal, a common occurance there. puke
